The IBA was established in 1955 as a USAID financed project. Initially the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania, provided the technical support; later, the University of Southern California got the contract to set up various facilities at the Institute and several prominent American professors were assigned to the IBA.

A large number of Pakistani faculty members received advanced degrees from Wharton and the University of Southern California. Till 1994, the University of Karachi awarded degrees to the graduates. In that year the Sindh Assembly elevated the Institute's status to that of a degree-awarding institution. Inspite of a rapid increase in the number of business schools, the IBA has maintained its position as the premier institution of higher learning in the field of management and business administration.

Candidates must be graduate Civil Engineers (B.E. or B.Sc. in Civil Engineering) and have 7 to 10 years experience of project execution, physical and financial progress monitoring and quality control of multiple projects. They should also have an experience of contract management, project planning and control.
Fresh graduates in architecture, well-versed with Auto Cad applications, may apply. Preference will, however, be given to a candidate having two years' experience. Candidates having a diploma in architecture and at least five years' experience may also apply.
Design and implement a strategy and action plan for mobilizing funds from the private sector, philanthropists, businessmen, alumni to support IBA through Endowment Fund, Endowed Chairs, Scholarships, etc. Develop annual targets and marketing plans to reach these targets.
A doctoral degree and have held a position as full professor and / or Head / Chair of Department of Dean / Associate Dean of an accredited university. A distinguished record of publications, scholarly productivity as well as administration leadership with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The Assistant Controller of Examinations will be responsible for the coordination and direction of alt functions related to the Examination Department. The major role of incumbent will be to increase efficiency of Examination Department under the supervision of Controller Examination.
Development of personnel systems, policies, procedures and implementations. Analysis of compensation / reward, data both internal and market-based and recommendation of appropriate improvements. Preparation of personnel budgets and assurance of timely and accurate payments of all employees.
