WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?The BBC World Service is looking to appoint a new Head of Urdu Service.
The BBC's Urdu Service broadcasts two hours of radio programmes every day and has a highly successful 24/7 online service, with a growing number of users.
Providing editorial, managerial and strategic leadership, you'll be responsible for leading and inspiring a diverse team of journalists and support staff mainly in the UK and Pakistan. You'll develop and implement the strategy for increasing the BBC's impact, commission radio and online output, plan coverage, manage resources, motivate and develop staff. Generating original ideas, inspiring editorial creativity and driving changes in content and technology to maintain and increase audiences will be central to your role. With a track record in editorial leadership across a range of output, you'll have substantial management experience at a senior level, a strong intellectual interest in global issues and events, extensive knowledge of international politics and a thorough understanding of social and political trends in Pakistan and South Asia. You'll need to have highly developed resource management and planning skills, as well as knowledge of radio and online production and distribution processes. You should be educated to degree level, and have excellent knowledge of Urdu and English.
